Our Venturer Scouts Programme
The Venturer Company meets weekly on Wednesday nights. The first Wednesday of every month is a Base Camp Meeting in which we evaluate our past expeditions and talk about future ones. All members are expected to attend. Meetings are lead by the Company Leadership Team (CLT) and are essential to providing a great program to the members.
In certain months, the Company leads Intersectional Activities in which members are divided into the younger sections (Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts) and create a two-hour program including games, crafts, or skill building. This allows members to build on their leadership skills and interact with other members of the 11th Toronto Scout Group.
In addition, the Company provides service to the Scout group and the community. Our service projects have included; Street Patrol where Venturers distribute food and clothing to the homeless; Milliken Mills Christmas Party, where Venturers set-up, prep, and serve a community Christmas dinner; and Apple Day, where Venturers accompany younger sections in selling apples as a fundraiser for our Scout group.
Furthermore, our Company's program is proud to include areas which work towards having members achieve their Duke of Edinburgh award (DEA), a non-competitive, internationally recognized program designed to encourage young people to develop positive skills and lifestyle habits. The Company has two hikes a year with preliminary training assisting members with earning their DEA. On top of two hikes, Venturers also have many camping trips. This may include Bonding Camp, near the beginning of the year where members get to know each other, or Winter Camp, where members develop winter survival skills. The program even includes an annual summer camp and or out-of-country travel. Previous expeditions have included Haliburton Scout Reserve, Algonquin National Park, the Canadian Jamboree in Alberta, and Blair Atholl in Scotland.
In summary, our great variety of events allow the Company many opportunities to learn and progress. With dedicated individuals, anything is possible with our program.
