Beaver Colony Programme
To achieve the Scouts Canada Mission we create a climate and opportunities that encourages positive social behaviours and where Beavers learn to:
- Use positive ways to express and communicate their feeling and needs
- Follow rules (through participation in activities)
- Work as a team and share responsibilities
- Care about each other, their community and the environment
- Appreciate what they have
- Respect each other
- Develop and enhance their physical development
We encourage Beavers to try and take part in activities but not to win or becoming the best.
Our principle is "Everyone can participate, have fun, be safe and learn something that will be useful.
Weeking Meeting
Our weekly programmes include a combination of the following activities:
- Games – help Beavers learn to follow rules, take turn and be cooperative
- Crafts – encourage creativity, self expression, hand-eye coordination
- Songs – bring about happiness and joy
- Story Telling – stimulates imagination, enables moral learning
Outdoor Activities
We understand that by attending weekly meeting alone cannot fully help to achieve the Scouting Mission, thus we normally arrange an average of one outdoor activity per month throughout the year. These activities include:
- Hiking
- Apple Day (a Scouts Canada tradition and fundraising event)
- Skating
- Visits (Conservation Area, Farm, Fire Stations, Museum, etc.)
- Sleepovers – indoor Camping
- Scout Tree (fulfilling the Beaver's Promise and fundraising event)
Our outdoor activities are usually held on Sundays. Beaver's parents and their siblings are invited to join.
Festive Gatherings
(Beaver Scouts' family members are invited to join.)
- Halloween Party
- Christmas Party
- Chinese New Year Party
Ceremonies
(Beaver Scouts' family members are invited to join.)
-
Investiture Ceremony
- when a new Beaver becomes an official member of our Colony and the World Scouting Movement. They will be permitted to wear our Group Neckerchief. To be invested a full member our Beaver Scouts must fulfill the requirements that are described in our Beaver Book.
-
Advancement Ceremony
- usually held at the end of May each year, celebrates Beavers who have learned the basic social skills to continue the journey of development in the Wolf Cub Pack
To ensure the safety of our Beaver Scouts, we will maintain the required Leader to Beaver Scout ratio of
a. 1:5 - weekly meeting
b. 1:3 - camping and outdoor activities
c. 2:1 - when moving from the line of sight of an event. e.g. meeting
